I never take high quality photos of my daughter. Two reasons but not good excuses! First is because I always have my Iphone and have over 2k pictures on it maxing out my memory and more on my computer, and 2 because getting the kid ready, preparing for the shoot, being the photographer and mom, at the same time is tough! It took me hours to prep, plan, get her ready, set up at the studio, and then try to shoot technically, get her to pay attention to me and smile. Most would say well she is probably used to you having the camera in her face all the time. Yes and no. She is, but also runs away from me most of the time. Most of my photos I have of her are crazy action shots, but I love every single one because they are candid and really show her goofy self. She is hilarious and I would must rather have her silly faces than a forced smile any day! But I love this attempt at her first “official” photo session! I think she will have many more to come, but I also can’t wait til the weather warms up and we can go outside and I can capture her having fun and doing everything that she loves!! She is becoming a girly princess and wears skirts and crowns everywhere but still loves dirt and worms! 🙂
Throughout all the hustle and bustle of the holidays I forgot to post the two most special little Christmas angels!! One in the little car with the cutest smile and fun idea for her mommy and daddy’s Christmas card is my niece!! She is so beautiful! Loves to smile and the camera… But she was not having my new studio downtown!! We ended up taking her little coupe car outside and I like it even better!! The other angel is mine!! Gosh I love her little face!! So angelic!! I swear though I take out my iPhone and the kid hams it up!! Smiles all day long and tells me to take her picture! I plan something and set it up and take out my big expensive camera and she either freezes or doesn’t want anything to do with it!! You would think being a photographer I would have tons of pictures of her…. But if it wasn’t for my trusty iPhone which literally has over 2k pics in it, I wouldn’t have any!! I love this sweet picture of her for my Christmas card though!! 🙂
Every parent wants those holiday photos of their child and their family! I booked with a client that I did for his first birthday! He was now 18 months. I was so excited to see him again!! I remember that age….after they are walking, starting to really explore and figure things out for themselves, and also not wanting anything to do with strangers, or doing what they are told! Who would….when there is that whole world out there!! So when I met up with Logan and his parents in the studio he wasn’t having it! He was very well behaved, and so adorable, but he just wouldn’t smile for me! We tried and after a little while I said lets do this again tomorrow! It was scheduled to be 60 degrees in December in Ohio and that is unheard of! So I made plans to meet up with them in a great town square! It was decorated beautifully and I think he had a little more fun and wasmore comfortable. I will always go the extra mile to provide my clients with the photos that they hope for! I want them to treasure these pictures for many many years to come! I want them to hang them on their walls and look a their little baby who grows too fast and his smiling face!
I saw a girl that I haven’t seen since high school. I got to meet her amazing husband and her two beautiful boys! It was so great to see her, and her family is so sweet! Little James was soo amazing with his baby brother Jack! So attentive and sweet and wanted to hold him the entire time. I had so much fun at this shoot! The family was up for different ideas and we had some gorgeous scenery. I love this covered bridge and shot here for my very first job, and definitely will be returning. Right under the bridge is a beautiful part of the metroparks. A little 5 minute walk down the street are the cutest little shops and a stationary train that any kid would love to climb on! It was so hot that day in the 90’s but we shot earlier in the day and everyone was a trooper! I love their bright colors and their smiles just light up every picture. I am taking some classes and learning some new things about my camera and some different techniques. I was really happy with the clarity and quality of the pictures..probably for the first time! I still have a lot to learn and have had three shoots since this and feel like I am improving each day. I love learning and growing and finding new things everyday inspires me so much! I also love Pinterest and try to find new creative ideas for shoots. As I have said before I love candid shots and its hard to plan with kids what is going to happen, but I am trying to have more of a shot list before I approach the shoot. I usually email some ideas to the parents and find out what they like or don’t like. It helps them have a feel for the style of photography that I do, and usually inspires them to come up with more ideas for the session too! It helps me with the flow of the shoot. A few times I have felt like what should I have them do next? With a little shot list it helps inspire more ideas for me and so far it has improved things on both ends I think! I am truly blessed to have shared the day with this family and I hope they love the photos!
My friend asked me to take pictures of her daughter for her dance recital. She said that not only does she love my stuff (cause she is my friend)… but the photographer that they hire takes one pose in each outfit and it is like $40! How do I sign up for that job? Lol I was more than happy to!! Mia is five and seriously a photographers dream! Not only is she the cutest thing, but she changes her pose every time the camera clicks! I am always like how did you learn how to do this? Guess if you got it, you got it! She is so fun! Here are the pics from right before her dance recital!
Every picture truly captures who she is! A little diva, her adorable little smile! You can tell she is having so much fun and loves getting all dressed up!
I had the nicest family contact me and ask to take photos of their little boy! He was turning one and they wanted some pictures of him and to use for his birthday invites! I was so excited! We talked … Continue reading
It is really fun to be three, but not really fun to have your pictures taken! I tried to approach this as a fun time and not a chore for Olivia! I spoke with her mom and we decided to go and shoot at a huge playground in Beachwood! It was half way in between us and what could be better for her? I have found that trying to pose kids 3 and under usually doesn’t work, and its not very fun for them! My favorite shots are always candid shots and I was thrilled with how all of these came out! Olivia is so gorgeous and such a sweet little girl! She had a blast, I had so much fun with her! And I think her parents were really happy with how the shots came out! They really captured her natural smile and playfulness!!!
I am a huge fan of black and white! I love the feel and look of it! I really like the white and grey framing around her!
I loved this shot! When I was looking at all the details on it though, as a photographer I was bothered by it! I saw shadows, and blotches on her skin from the railing! I was so upset about it! I was thinking I should have moved her and saw the shadows at the time! I then realized that from my standpoint it may not be 100% perfect, but it is still a great portrait! I can’t control the sun or every single aspect! I even mentioned this to Olivia’s mom who is a friend. She then told me that in color it was her and her husband’s favorite picture and the one that they blew up!! She said they loved the way that the sun hit her face and the shadows. I made me so happy! It also made me try and trust myself a little more. It is good to be critical, but not everyone is going to love every single picture, and some that I may find little things wrong with might be their favorite!!
Just hanging out and having fun!
Her shadow reminds me of peter pan here!!
Ok so she is my niece, but I just think she is just the cutest, sweetest, thing ever! Her facial features just make me stare at her pictures! She has such emotion, and the happiness you see in her just melts you!
I love this little girl! I love being her aunt! I love her smile and her little lips and perfect face! I am so lucky to have her in my life, and that my sister asks me to take her pictures! She is the utmost fun challenge there is! She is soooo fast!! Ever since she started walking she runs!! Her joy and excitement is captivating! Although she usually is running away from me…she LOVES having her picture taken. You can always get a smile out of her once the camera comes out!!!
I had an absolute blast taking pictures of her and honestly love having a little challenge. It makes things more interesting and fun! Every shot has a little something different to it and really shows who she is!
This is one of my favorite shots of all time! The innocence and beauty of it!
This was my first time shooting with a white backdrop. White is tricky to shoot, hard to edit, and shows a lot of shadows. I have learned more in the past few shoots that I have done with it, but have yet to perfect it. I am researching into more lights and another flash as well as learning new techniques!
Another friend asked me to do Christmas cards for her! I was so excited! I was a little nervous because I started thinking how important pictures of kids are to their parents. Adding in holiday pictures is even more pressure. Moms spend a ton of time picking out the outfits that will showcase their children all dressed up and looking their best!!! But then I realized how fun and exciting that is for me to be able to capture that!! I wanted to do a great job for her and also knew that these cards would be sent out to all of their family and friends for them to see! Besides my daughter, sister, and another friend, it would be the first time my work is being shown and hopefully enjoyed by others! Sommer was 4 and posed for every shot! Even if I wasn’t ready she would say Shannon take my picture!! Lila was 1 and really didn’t want a whole lot to do with me, the camera, or sitting still. I followed her all throughout the house and was able to catch some really cute shots though!! I had a blast with these two!!
In the fall of 2011, my camera arrived in the mail! It was the best package I have ever opened…well besides London above of course!! I couldn’t put it down! I wanted to lock myself in a closet and just learn everything about it!!! (I had a 1 year old running around yelling mommy mommy) So the next day I played with her, and of course my new present!!
