Every parent wants those holiday photos of their child and their family! I booked with a client that I did for his first birthday! He was now 18 months. I was so excited to see him again!! I remember that age….after they are walking, starting to really explore and figure things out for themselves, and also not wanting anything to do with strangers, or doing what they are told! Who would….when there is that whole world out there!! So when I met up with Logan and his parents in the studio he wasn’t having it! He was very well behaved, and so adorable, but he just wouldn’t smile for me! We tried and after a little while I said lets do this again tomorrow! It was scheduled to be 60 degrees in December in Ohio and that is unheard of! So I made plans to meet up with them in a great town square! It was decorated beautifully and I think he had a little more fun and wasmore comfortable. I will always go the extra mile to provide my clients with the photos that they hope for! I want them to treasure these pictures for many many years to come! I want them to hang them on their walls and look a their little baby who grows too fast and his smiling face!
I love being able to capture a family at any time of the year…but the holidays just make it better!! Two brothers who probably argue and act like typical siblings show they love each other! The parents were so fun and wanted to do some cute ideas! The boys were great and the shots of the two of them reminded me of how fun it was growing up with my own siblings! I hope they look back someday and remember every great moment too!
Another new experience for me was a little baby that came my way! I do a lot of kids…but they are usually around a year old and up! It has felt like such a long time since my 2 1/2 year old has been a baby. I know how to work the toddlers now…. what works and what doesn’t. And for the most part, if a toddler doesn’t want their picture taken, its not gonna happen if you force them! This is one of the many reasons that I love shooting outdoors, because then they can just be a kid and I can follow them around and have them smile all on their own! I went to the couples house because I feel that with a newborn they are more comfortable in their own environment and I know how hard it is to get everything ready, and get out of the house for picture day! Although it is a lot of stuff to bring to them, it is just me, not bottles, toys, pacifiers, diapers, outfits, spit up rags, etc. 🙂 I have always gone to location but I found a newborn inside a little more difficult. Going to a location I have never been I don’t know the lighting or set up. Natural light is key and this was a little difficult because we needed more space so we set up in the basement. Overall it went well, but in the future I will do this in a studio that I am now renting from. I will still always travel to location and try to accommodate in any way I can, but I also want to give the best results. I was really excited about this little bed that I bought off etsy and got a little baby girl fever with all the fabrics and headbands and outfits, and just watching her with her mom and dad. Newborns is something that I really want to have the opportunity to work on in the future. Although she was amazing and slept for her all of her shots, I want to practice on my setup, and props, and poses for the future! I am not really into posing babies into unnatural ways or using over the top props, so I am pleased with what we did. We were able to capture them as a family, her in her daddy’s arms, her sleeping, and even with her dog! I hope that I get to see them all again in the future!
Wedding jitters…. It wasn’t the bride or groom.. it was me! I have only assisted at one wedding and some great friends of mine asked me if I would come and photograph their special day. They wanted a small ceremony at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens with just their family and a few close friends. A simple ceremony, some pictures throughout the gardens, and a beautiful luncheon after. I said yes without hesitation because I was truly honored that they even asked me to do it! I was extremely nervous though. I am used to photographing kids, babies, families etc. If something were to ever go wrong, I could always redo it. With a wedding it is a one time, one moment, special occasion. What about is something went wrong with my camera? What if one of my lenses wouldn’t work? I started panicking. Then I had to push all of that aside and just went for it. I got there and checked out the beautiful gardens where they would be saying their vows. It was a cloudy day in October, a little chilly but it was too beautiful not to get married outside. I helped the bride get ready and then headed outside to my place. I waited for her father to bring her down the path and photographed the intimate ceremony between them. I then walked through the beautiful gardens with them and took some pictures that I later enlarged and printed on some canvases for them!! My favorite part of photographing anyone, but especially with a couple is to snap a picture of them, and then when they are not looking or paying attention snap again. I love getting the photographs where they are laughing and interacting and truly being who they are. If it were up to me… I would probably hide in the woods and capture pictures that way! I am a little shy and still getting used to telling people how to stand and what to do. I am learning how to handle all situations though and taking a lot from each experience!
I met this cute family through a friend of a friend. Their little girl had just turned 2 and they wanted some portraits of her and them as a family! They love water, Kelly’s island, and had a nautical theme for her birthday! I picked a favorite spot of mine down by the city and Lake Erie. It has grass and trees, water and sand, boats, and amazing scenery! It is a great place to hang out with friends and family, and has everything that is great about our city!! They were such an adorable family and my goal for the day was to make her smile!! She was shy, which is normal for any little kid at her age, and with a stranger in your face with a camera!! I think we got some great family shots, and I got to see her smile, as well as capturing the candidness of the day!
Oh my little Addison! Love her!! I have been photographing this little munchkin since she was born! It has been amazing to watch her grow!! Her mom has such great ideas, and wanted to do a Cleveland Browns outfit, get some use out of her adorable Halloween costume, and because who wouldn’t want some new cute pictures of this little cutie!!? I love fall and how the colors pop, and how beautiful her blue eyes are!! She is such a happy baby and is so easy to photograph!!
I had the opportunity to photograph and attend my first concert last night at the House of Blues! One of my favorite bands from high school Our Lady Peace. They were awesome!! I liked te venue and there was a nice area blocked off for photographers. I was the only one there! The bouncers were super nice. Venue was cool. Lighting was ok, sound system was good! Here are some of my shots. I am still new to all of this and am learning. I like some of the shots I got, others are ok. I am photographing again tonight and I want to use the lighting (if possible) and compose my shots a little bit better and make them more interesting. I don’t want my photos to look like anyone can take it. I am still learning how to adjust and meter my camera very quickly and we only get three songs, so I always want to make sure I get some shots, but I also want them to be great shots!! I had a lot of fun and enjoy learning every time!!
I found one!!!
I was disappointed that I did not have one shot where Raine looked at me, especially since I was the only photographer! I found this and was so happy! I also love the lighting composition! This is what I was trying to accomplish. A good shot, with something interesting about it!!!
I had the nicest family contact me and ask to take photos of their little boy! He was turning one and they wanted some pictures of him and to use for his birthday invites! I was so excited! We talked … Continue reading
