Red boots, red lipstick, guitar, good looks, and a voice to match! Lindi came out opening for a legend punk rock band Social Distortion at the House of Blues and held her own! Her catchy lyrics, fun music, confidence, beauty, and talent held the crowds attention from the second she walked out on the stage. Whether it was to watch her, or want to be her, it was hard to take your eyes off of her! My favorite of the night was her song “bang bang” and her cover of a Johnny Cash song that made the crowd go nuts!!

Martin Sexton once again wowed the crowd with his amazing voice. The modern day folk/blues artist from Syracuse, New York left it all on the stage Saturday night at the Historic Kent Stage. Martin was in town promoting his new album “Fall Like Rain” which was released earlier this year.
His beautiful voice echoed through the venue like it was built just for him. Kent Stage is well known for being one of the best acoustical venues around and Martin was sure to take advantage of this. Whether it was his long drawn out voice hitting high notes with precision or his scat-like improvisations, there was not a bad moment all night.
Though Martin is touring to promote his new album, he didn’t shy away from his classics. Giving the crowd everything they could ask for. Weaving between “Glory Bound”, possibly his best known song, and “In the Journey,” a fan favorite, to his great rendition of The Beatles hit “With a Little Help From My Friends” Martin never skipped a beat. At one point he went twenty plus minutes without stopping, giving fans a real taste of his talents.
For those of you who don’t know who Martin Sexton is, do yourself a favor and go see him live. He has been touring almost non-stop for twenty years, so undoubtedly you’ll have another chance to see him. His live shows are unforgettable and his stage presence is mesmerizing. He has built his career on the road and he is truly one of the best “one man bands” out there.
I was contacted by a publicist from Miami and asked to photograph an up and coming artist. I went to the show and found out that he is from my hometown of Parma, Ohio. SJ has been compared to Jack Johnson, Joshua Radin, and a few others, but he has his own soulful style! It was an intimate setting of friends, family, and fans that gathered on the night before he kicked off his tour across the states! I really enjoyed his music, and how he captivated the crowd. He will go far, and I am thankful that I was asked to come and do something I love to do, as well as hear and experience a new artist on the horizon. I chose to do these in black in white because the lighting of the venue was not that great , and because I think it shows the intimate atmosphere.
I was so excited to see Sheryl Crow. I have loved her and every album since I can remember!! She is so cute, beautiful, sexy, confident on stage. She is so talented with her guitar and voice!! She was playing songs from one of my favorite albums, everything old and new!! She is really something to see live!! Such talent and she has come so far, yet she has been amazing all along!! She is one of the most beautifully, talented female singers that I can think of!! Her voice, and lyrics are touching yet fun and soulful. Her stage presence is what you would picture in your head when you listen to one of her albums! It was a great show!! Probably one of my favorites!
Los Lonely Boys opened for O.A.R and Sheryl Crow at Kent State University’s stadium. They were great live!! Some bands sound great live and some don’t… this is one that you should really see live!! Not only do they sound amazing but you can tell that they are really into their music, performance, and enjoy what they do!!
I photographed Tristan Prettyman and Joshua Radin at Cain Park in Cleveland Heights. I really like the venue. It is set up like Blossom with pavilion and lawn but about 1/3 the size! The architecture is really neat and has some old stone work, the park is really pretty. They let you bring in your own food and beverages (no alcohol) so you can have a picnic on a blanket! I don’t think there is really a bad seat, as you can see some of the further away shots are from the lawn. The sound system was really good. I have never heard of Tristan but she had a gorgeous and flawless voice. Her music was intriguing and her storytelling with her lyrics really sucked you in. I couldn’t stay too long for Joshua’s set but he has a great voice and his stage presence just makes you feel like you are at home hanging out with a friend. This is an outdoor venue so it was sort of light out but just starting to get dark. There is not too much to the lighting set up but they featured some instruments, props, and some blue lights. I thought is was very personal and intimate. Here are some of my shots from the evening.
I had the opportunity to photograph and attend my first concert last night at the House of Blues! One of my favorite bands from high school Our Lady Peace. They were awesome!! I liked te venue and there was a nice area blocked off for photographers. I was the only one there! The bouncers were super nice. Venue was cool. Lighting was ok, sound system was good! Here are some of my shots. I am still new to all of this and am learning. I like some of the shots I got, others are ok. I am photographing again tonight and I want to use the lighting (if possible) and compose my shots a little bit better and make them more interesting. I don’t want my photos to look like anyone can take it. I am still learning how to adjust and meter my camera very quickly and we only get three songs, so I always want to make sure I get some shots, but I also want them to be great shots!! I had a lot of fun and enjoy learning every time!!
I found one!!!
I was disappointed that I did not have one shot where Raine looked at me, especially since I was the only photographer! I found this and was so happy! I also love the lighting composition! This is what I was trying to accomplish. A good shot, with something interesting about it!!!
