The Big Announcement!!!

I have been photographing this little angel above since she was a tiny little baby.  Her parents were the first to trust in me to take her newborn, 3 month, 6, 9, 1 year and every special occasion photos!  I am so grateful that they have asked me and continue to use me for all of their special moments.  They are the most amazing people and I have known her mom for years.  She has become an even closer friend over the past few years and called me before she told some friends about the possibility of this announcement!  I was so excited for her and her family on the possibility of a new baby.  I didn’t even think about what she was asking me!  Of course like me, because we are very similar, and can’t keep secrets for long…..she said as soon as I get the confirmation from the doctor I want to document and announce this!  How cool and fun for me!  We talked and planned ideas and she right away, like she always does, got the cutest little shirt for Addy!  AW!!  Big sister!!!  Momma is doing great and due in the fall and even if Addy doesn’t understand quite yet, she will be so excited to have a little sister or brother!  I love the photos because although we planned what we wanted to do.. Addyson was her usual star self and made the pictures even more adorable!!  And then we had to do some cute Valentines and Easter photos of her for mom and dad!!

Warning-Cuteness Overload!!!!!!

6 months of pure joy!

This is my other little niece! She is such a sweet little baby. Always smiling and happy. It is crazy to see what I still think of as my baby brother with a little girl! Again, being an aunt and sharing parenthood with my brother and sister is just as rewarding as being a mom myself! We planned to do some outdoor family shots at the same spot that they had their engagement pictures taken. It was November in Ohio and I had just returned from Florida the night before, but it was a surprising almost 60 degrees!! We then headed down to the studio and got some great shots of her! She was happy and didn’t mind having her picture taken! One of the easiest shoots I have done! My brother is funny…he wanted to make it look like she was sitting on the rock and peaking out behind the tree all on her own! I love all of the pictures and I always enjoy seeing them made into Christmas cards for everyone to enjoy! I save them all, and have a wall in my house of all of my friends and families kids so I can look at them all year!!

Newborn love, props, and shots!

Another new experience for me was a little baby that came my way!  I do a lot of kids…but they are usually around a year old and up!  It has felt like such a long time since my 2 1/2 year old has been a baby.  I know how to work the toddlers now…. what works and what doesn’t.  And for the most part, if a toddler doesn’t want their picture taken, its not gonna happen if you force them!  This is one of the many reasons that I love shooting outdoors, because then they can just be a kid and I can follow them around and have them smile all on their own!  I went to the couples house because I feel that with a newborn they are more comfortable in their own environment and I know how hard it is to get everything ready, and get out of the house for picture day!  Although it is a lot of stuff to bring to them, it is just me, not bottles, toys, pacifiers, diapers, outfits, spit up rags, etc.  🙂  I have always gone to location but I found a newborn inside a little more difficult.  Going to a location I  have never been I don’t know the lighting or set up.  Natural light is key and this was a little difficult because we needed more space so we set up in the basement.  Overall it went well, but in the future I will do this in a studio that I am now renting from.  I will still always travel to location and try to accommodate in any way I can, but I also want to give the best results.  I was really excited about this little bed that I bought off etsy and got a little baby girl fever with all the fabrics and headbands and outfits, and just watching her with her mom and dad.  Newborns is something that I really want to have the opportunity to work on in the future.  Although she was amazing and slept for her all of her shots, I want to practice on my setup, and props, and poses for the future!  I am not really into posing babies into unnatural ways or using over the top props, so I am pleased with what we did.  We were able to capture them as a family, her in her daddy’s arms, her sleeping, and even with her dog!  I hope that I get to see them all again in the future!   ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

The Beauty of Comfort

Sometimes you meet people that you can instantly connect with, get along with, and feel like you have been friends for a long time, this is one of those times!!  I met this family through the publicist that had asked me to photograph an artist.  They were so sweet and down to earth!  Long story short they both went to school with my husband over the years and we knew a lot of the same people… what a small world it really is!  We picked a great spot nearby their home and were able to have the outdoors, yet photograph the little one and his bright, outgoing, big brother with some backdrops and props too!!  I think they all had a great time and we were able to spend a couple of hours just hanging out and capturing their family!!  I felt like I could have hung out with them all day!!  We even found a little Wooly bear at the end of the day that had to go home with them and was named “Happy” as I learned today when I met up with them again!  🙂  It is so easy to photograph when everyone is comfortable, laid back, and enjoys themselves.  Every new session is a new challenge, a new learning experience, and a new inspiration for me!  I take so much from meeting new people and my favorite part of my job is making them have fun, be at ease, and most of all smile when they see the pictures!  It was just the start of fall so we were able to get some great colors and I hope these pictures will help them remember this time in their lives for a long time!!  ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Baby, Browns, and Beauty!

Oh my little Addison!  Love her!!  I have been photographing this little munchkin since she was born!  It has been amazing to watch her grow!!  Her mom has such great ideas, and wanted to do a Cleveland Browns outfit, get some use out of her adorable Halloween costume, and because who wouldn’t want some new cute pictures of this little cutie!!?  I love fall and how the colors pop, and how beautiful her blue eyes are!!  She is such a happy baby and is so easy to photograph!!  ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Baby Boy and Lots of Joy!!

This was my first adult/maternity shoot.  I wasn’t nervous because I had some ideas planned and a pretty spot, and a gorgeous couple!  I was really excited to capture the excitement and happiness of a an upcoming new life!  It made me remember my own pregnancy and all the things that come along with it!  I am very used to candid shots, and also just chasing kids around.  This was a new challenge for me.  I had to plan every picture, every pose, and tell them what to do.  Kara is 7 months pregnant and looked gorgeous so that was easy!!  Frank was amazing.  He would touch her belly, or look down at it, and hold her hand.  I was very impressed that he came and was into the shoot.  They were so cute!  You could tell they were nervous and I would say, ok its time to get a little intimate.  :-  My favorite shot is the one of just her belly with the bow and his hands.  This actually came out of a bad pic too!  Her eyes were closed and I had a previous shot that was similar so I wanted to try to make something else out of it… I could not have been happier with the result!  I am really happy with all the pictures and I know the couple is too!  I am so excited for them and she said she can’t wait to put the pics around their brand new apartment they just got together!  How exciting for them.  New apartment and even more a new life on the way!  I am going to their baby shower on sunday and am going to blow up some pics for part of their gift!!  ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Miss Addyson

I photographed this little one when she was only a few weeks old, and was so excited to see her again for her six month shoot!  Her mom and I talked and planned a lot for it!  I came up with some different ideas and her mom planned the cutest outfits!!!  Her mom Amber has been such a huge support to my new business and is open to trying anything.  I have so much fun with them, and little Addyson doesn’t even mind the outfit changes and hour and a half long shoot! (most of the time)  It was really hot in the 90’s but we stayed in the shade and there was a little breeze.  I brought some balloons and LOVE how the pics came out.  I read somewhere that you can stake them in the ground with golf tees.  I used toothpicks-just as good and cheaper!  I just purchased this flexible mirror and I am so glad that I did.  I was nervous how they were going to turn out, but I love the result of Addyson reflecting in the mirror with the trees in the background.  I brought some backdrops and we set those up for some different shots, and little Addy wasn’t a huge fan of laying in the grass anyway.  The tutu shots and the pearls are so adorable!  So simple and perfect!  This shoot has given me a lot of reflection on my work.  From when I first photographed Addyson until now I have seen so much growth and I really appreciate that Amber has let me learn and grow and has asked me to continue to take pictures of their family!!  I still have a lot to learn and it excites me to be able to grow!  I am so lucky to have such amazing subjects and friends who allow me to do so!  I am so happy with how these photos turned out!  I hope you all enjoy them!

OH Baby Baby!

So about three of four months into having my camera I was hoping to photograph a little baby!  Mine was already 1 1/2 and I didn’t know anyone else having one anytime soon!  Along comes Amber!  We worked together for many years and have stayed in touch thanks to Fb!  She actually had moved to SC with her husband for a few years.  She had just had a beautiful little baby named Addyson AND moved back to Ohio!!!!!!  I was so excited to see her and meet her wonderful husband and gorgeous little girl!!  I was nervous for the shoot… but also not nervous at all with them!  Amber is very much like myself, fun, witty, outgoing.  If something is uncomfortable, we could easily just joke about it!  We talked for a few days, planned to get together.  I told her I would spend as much time as needed and was just so excited to spend the day with them!  I was so happy with the pictures and had a blast!  Looking back now, I am always always always always critiquing my work, and do not like to be negative, but wow I had, and have, a lot to learn.  At the time I loved everything even though we met challenges.  I had just purchased some backdrops, which were not all that great being that I did not have much of a budget.  Ryan, her husband, was trying to help me figure out how to get them to stay up!  I did not know everything I know now about my camera.  I had just started to figure out how to use my editing program.  Little Addyson was a few weeks old, and I learned that posing a little baby is not as easy as the first few days are!   Trying to get them to pose, rest, and lay, when they want to play, fuss and eat is not all that easy!  I always look at things from a technical standpoint first and then evaluate the rest second, and I am now disappointed.  I wish I could have done better!  But I take everything as a learning experience.  It inspires me to learn more and work harder!  It pushes me to do better with each experience.  I am lucky enough to be asked to photograph this little sweetheart again in a  week for her six month shoot!  SOOOO excited and have so many ideas planned!  I am  going to give it my all, and have really been preparing myself for this opportunity!  Can’t wait to share soon!!
