Our Lady Peace and Mean Creek

I had the opportunity to photograph and attend my first concert last night at the House of Blues! One of my favorite bands from high school Our Lady Peace. They were awesome!! I liked te venue and there was a nice area blocked off for photographers. I was the only one there! The bouncers were super nice. Venue was cool. Lighting was ok, sound system was good! Here are some of my shots. I am still new to all of this and am learning. I like some of the shots I got, others are ok. I am photographing again tonight and I want to use the lighting (if possible) and compose my shots a little bit better and make them more interesting. I don’t want my photos to look like anyone can take it. I am still learning how to adjust and meter my camera very quickly and we only get three songs, so I always want to make sure I get some shots, but I also want them to be great shots!! I had a lot of fun and enjoy learning every time!!

I found one!!!
I was disappointed that I did not have one shot where Raine looked at me, especially since I was the only photographer! I found this and was so happy! I also love the lighting composition! This is what I was trying to accomplish. A good shot, with something interesting about it!!!

Smiles of Love and Bonds

I can honestly say these are some of the most beautiful pictures that I have taken. Every pictures shows the love of this family. They are so inspiring and beautiful inside and out. The little girls have such different personalities and features of each of their parents. I look at these pictures all the time and how the mom’s smile at her husband or her little girls just warms your heart. I did a couple of traditional family portraits for them, did a few fun family portraits of them, and then just had fun. We walked down the beach and capturing the girls and the family was a blast! I think that they all had a great time, and I try to make it a fun experience for everyone! I love to learn and watch the kids and capture them when they are most natural. I think the shot of the two girls where Maddy is hugging Sammy is my favorite picture I have ever taken. So innocent, and so beautiful! I like to try out a couple of different ideas for each session too, like the feet in the sand, or the girls in focus and the parents in the background. Sometimes my ideas work, sometimes they don’t. Either way, it is fun to try something new!! I have been taking some photography classes, and invested in a new lens and I am really proud of my work. I love to keep learning everyday. I am so happy to have the opportunity to do so with such a beautiful family. I am so happy to be able to share these photos and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage
I had the opportunity to photograph Stevie Nicks and Rod Stewart. My first media pass!! I was so excited and nervous. My sister writes for an online media paper and also her own music blog. I will post soon so you all can follow!!! I was escorted under the Quicken Loans Arena and backstage onto the floor of the arena. I was then given a pass and the rules. Of course no flash and first two songs. I met two other photographers, one of which writes for the Plain Dealer. I introduced myself and told them this was new to me. They were nice and showed me where to stand and the concert started soon. I only brought one lens with me. A 50mm. I was told that my standard zoom lenses would not function correctly in low lighting. Which is true, except for such a large venue. The stage lighting is enough light for any lens. Most concerts you are by the stage, or in a “pit.” For this we were about 500 feet back by the sound and light guys. Needless to say, my lens was not long enough. I am 5′ 2″ and couldn’t shoot over the crowd. I practiced metering my lighting and learned how to do it quickly in the dark. I shot and it looked like a spec on stage. I was so upset. I then was escorted to my seat in about the tenth row. I was able to sneak these photos from there. Lesson learned to bring my entire camera bag, and each of these upcoming concerts is going to be such a great learning experience. I am not a huge fan of Rod, I like Stevie Nicks, but they really put on a great show! Rod is so animated, and his voice is just like on any album. His attire, and his band mates attire was so sophisticated. It was kinda nice to see such stature. Although the pink panther suit was a little much for me! ūüėČ The girls on stage were beautiful and their voices even better!! Each girl showcased their talent in singing, saxophone, violin, etc and it left me in awe! The crowd was so involved, singing every word, to every song! You could tell they never wanted it to end. I have not been to many concerts at the Q but I found the sound system to be pretty bad. So here are my pics from the night! My mom had a blast, and I learned a lot! It was a great experience! GO Rod the Bod! ūüėČ

Miss Addyson

I photographed this little one when she was only a few weeks old, and was so excited to see her again for her six month shoot! ¬†Her mom and I talked and planned a lot for it! ¬†I came up with some different ideas and her mom planned the cutest outfits!!! ¬†Her mom Amber has been such a huge support to my new business and is open to trying anything. ¬†I have so much fun with them, and little Addyson doesn’t even mind the outfit changes and hour and a half long shoot! (most of the time) ¬†It was really hot in the 90’s but we stayed in the shade and there was a little breeze. ¬†I brought some balloons and LOVE how the pics came out. ¬†I read somewhere that you can stake them in the ground with golf tees. ¬†I used toothpicks-just as good and cheaper! ¬†I just purchased this flexible mirror and I am so glad that I did. ¬†I was nervous how they were going to turn out, but I love the result of Addyson reflecting in the mirror with the trees in the background. ¬†I brought some backdrops and we set those up for some different shots, and little Addy wasn’t a huge fan of laying in the grass anyway. ¬†The tutu shots and the pearls are so adorable! ¬†So simple and perfect! ¬†This shoot has given me a lot of reflection on my work. ¬†From when I first photographed Addyson until now I have seen so much growth and I really appreciate that Amber has let me learn and grow and has asked me to continue to take pictures of their family!! ¬†I still have a lot to learn and it excites me to be able to grow! ¬†I am so lucky to have such amazing subjects and friends who allow me to do so! ¬†I am so happy with how these photos turned out! ¬†I hope you all enjoy them!

Family Portraits

ImageImageImageImageImage

I saw a girl that I haven’t seen since high school. ¬†I got to meet her amazing husband and her two beautiful boys! ¬†It was so great to see her, and her family is so sweet! ¬†Little James was soo amazing with his baby brother Jack! ¬†So attentive and sweet and wanted to hold him the entire time. ¬†I had so much fun at this shoot! ¬†The family was up for different ideas and we had some gorgeous scenery. ¬†I love this covered bridge and shot here for my very first job, and definitely will be returning. ¬†Right under the bridge is a beautiful part of the metroparks. ¬†A little 5 minute walk down the street are the cutest little shops and a stationary train that any kid would love to climb on! ¬†It was so hot that day in the 90’s but we shot earlier in the day and everyone was a trooper! ¬†I love their bright colors and their smiles just light up every picture. ¬†I am taking some classes and learning some new things about my camera and some different techniques. ¬†I was really happy with the clarity and quality of the pictures..probably for the first time! ¬†I still have a lot to learn and have had three shoots since this and feel like I am improving each day. ¬†I love learning and growing and finding new things everyday inspires me so much! ¬†I also love Pinterest and try to find new creative ideas for shoots. ¬†As I have said before I love candid shots and its hard to plan with kids what is going to happen, but I am trying to have more of a shot list before I approach the shoot. ¬†I usually email some ideas to the parents and find out what they like or don’t like. ¬†It helps them have a feel for the style of photography that I do, and usually inspires them to come up with more ideas for the session too! ¬†It helps me with the flow of the shoot. ¬†A few times I have felt like what should I have them do next? ¬†With a little shot list it helps inspire more ideas for me and so far it has improved things on both ends I think! ¬†I am truly blessed to have shared the day with this family and I hope they love the photos!

I took photos of my sister, brother in law and my niece again this past weekend. My niece is 18 months and they wanted some new family photos!

I love this picture. If I could say exactly what I wanted out of the picture it would be this. I have another one of full frame, neither parent is looking but Kyla is staring at me dead on. Although the quality of the picture is not shown here..I like the portrayal of it. It feels like a painting to me. Timeless.

I love shooting in Downtown Cleveland. There are so many cool spots. City, trees, water, bridges, a little log cabin. Every turn is a new setting.

THANK YOU!!!!

Wow it has only been a few shorts weeks but I am SO SO SO humbled by the response of people that have taken the time to read my posts! ¬†It is truly inspiring and has really refreshed my love of sharing photos and seeing what everyone else has to share! ¬†The next few weeks are really exciting for me and my business is really starting to pick up! ¬†I can’t even call it work it is so much fun!! ¬†Tomorrow I am photographing family portraits for my sister, brother in law, and niece!! ¬†Next week I am photographing an amazing family with two adorable boys (the mom is a girl I haven’t seen in 11 years since high school!) ¬†The following week a follow up from a newborn with a gorgeous 6 month old! ¬†We have so many plans and can’t wait to share!! ¬†I am experimenting photographing some jewelry for a friend too! ¬†I have an evening sunset family shoot with a family and their two adorable little girls (again a friend I haven’t seen since high school). ¬†I am going to see the Cleveland Yacht Club with a girl who has hired me to photograph her wedding there in November! ¬†SOOOOO excited and nervous for that!!! ¬†I get to photograph Our Lady Peace at the House of Blues and Joshua Radin at Cain Park! ¬†I can’t even begin to explain what all of this means to me! ¬†It has taken me a long time to find a passion in life. ¬†Going through your 20’s is hard, fun, and such a learning experience. ¬†I am a few short weeks away from turning 30 and I finally feel like I am where I should be. ¬†I have worked hard, learned a ton, earned degrees, and now doing something that I love! ¬†My first passion is my daughter but it is really important to have something that is for you as well. ¬†I want to show my daughter how hard I worked and how fun life can be. ¬†I want to make her proud. ¬†I could go on and on about all the life lessons I have experienced and maybe I will someday, but for now I just truly want to say thanks! ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†

Flowers, Dirt, and Worms!!

For my daughter’s second birthday my first decision was not having it at my house. ¬†I had it at our house last year and although we have 2 acres in our backyard our house is pretty small. ¬†Last year after cleaning and prepping our yard for weeks, it rained the entire day! ¬†We spent most of the day inside our garage and under tents borrowed from friends and neighbors! ¬†So I found a beautiful park that also had a huge pavilion. ¬†This way if it rained at least we could look at the beauty outdoors and still be covered comfortably! ¬†ūüôā ¬†I had to go there at 7 am and start decorating and reserve the space, which was a little bit of a pain but the cleanup afterwards was easy and my house was clean when we came home!!! ¬†My daughter is a girly girl and loves flowers, but also loves dirt and has a weird infatuation with worms. ¬†She calls them baby goos! ¬†So I made her invitations of her in a flowery dress (you can see pics in previous post Two and Eyes So Blue) ¬†The invitation went something like London is GROWING into a bright young two year old! ¬†Come join us for some fun, food, and cake. ¬†So PETAL on over to her GARDEN party. ¬†Give SHANNON a buzz to rsvp. ¬†I catered some food which was pretty inexpensive. ¬†I made some arts and crafts for the kids to enjoy and we had a great day!!! ¬†The horse was brought my my husband’s uncle who lived 5 minutes away. ¬†“Bay” loved giving the kids rides!! ¬†My father in law brought a giant bag of colorful balls and dumped them off the side of the pavilion. ¬†The kids had a blast kicking them around and collecting them all to take home!

This is London saying I’m two and full of cheese puffs!

Image

I cut out each kids name to let them fingerpaint.  Once it dried we hung ours on the wall it and it is really cute!  The paint color on the wall shows through their name and the rest is all their artwork.  I bought the pots at Michaels and each kids got to paint them however they wanted.  They each got some sunflower seeds and some potting soil to take home and plant!

Image

My friend made the most amazing cake!!!!  Each cupcake was perfect.  She cut and dipped each little marshmallow to make the flower petals.  In the flower pot is the best dirt cake I have ever had!!  Complete with baby goos (worms) and giant flowers!!

Let the painting begin!!

Farm Party

I try and take my camera everywhere! ¬†One of my favorite places is to take it to birthday parties! ¬†Our friends decided to have a farm party. ¬†Now before you start thinking its crazy… I have heard the talk on how parents are starting to go crazy for kids parties these days! ¬†I could agree in one sense but not in all. ¬†I have recently heard of 10-15 4 year olds going to a spa! ¬†Hair, makeup, manicures, pedicures! ¬†To me that’s a little much! ¬†I mean if you have little divas on your hands, have your girlfriends paint their nails at your home! ¬†That’s just my opinion though… So parties should be about celebrating their birth! ¬†Having fun, and being surrounded by family and those that you love!! ¬†People is what is important. ¬†Adding a little fun in for the kids is great too! ¬†They have a beautiful yard and it was a gorgeous day. ¬†We had pizza and subs, and chicken and dips, fruit and cupcakes! ¬†The kids played on the swing set and ran around the yard. ¬†The birthday girl loved ponies and animals. ¬†My friend found a man and his granddaughter that lived about 20 minutes away and had a little traveling farm. ¬†It was sooo cute! ¬†IT was a petting zoo for the kids, taught them about animals, and for around $100. ¬†You can’t even go to a zoo or an amusement park with a family of 4 for under that! ¬†A water park costs $40 for a three year old! ¬†I had so much fun photographing the kids at play!
